Export of aquatic products into a new bright spot in Quanzhou's marine economy

On May 7, Quanzhou Customs revealed that in the first four months of this year, Quanzhou Customs inspected and regulated 57,300 tons of exported aquatic products, with a value of US$161 million, an increase of 39.54% and 42.52% respectively. The volume and price have increased substantially, reaching a record high in the same period.

According to China News Service, in recent years, the development of Quanzhou aquatic products export processing industry has entered the "fast lane", which has become a new bright spot in the development of Quanzhou's marine economy. According to official statistics, the industrial cluster consisting of 28 export-documented aquatic products processing enterprises has begun to take shape. The annual export value has increased from US$80 million in 2012 to US$295 million in 2017, achieving “five consecutive increases”. The annual increase is as high as 53%.

The expansion of the diversified market is another highlight of the development of Quanzhou's aquatic products export processing industry. According to the customs, this year, Quanzhou's aquatic products exports have increased in Angola, Seychelles, Cook Islands and other countries or regions, and the number of exporting countries and regions has reached 46.

Southeast Asia is the main market for the export of aquatic products in Quanzhou. Customs statistics show that in the first four months of this year, Quanzhou's aquatic products exports to the Philippines and Indonesia reached US$70.811 million and US$22.618 million, respectively, up 82.89% and 7.11% respectively.

The development of Quanzhou's aquatic products export processing industry has also driven the development of Quanzhou's offshore fishing industry. Customs sources said that in the first four months of this year, Quanzhou had a total of 12,100 tons of returning to the ocean, which was more than four times year-on-year. For the first time, the fishing grounds were expanded from the single North Pacific to the Indian Ocean.

It is understood that Quanzhou Customs has fully implemented customs clearance facilitation measures such as release of orders and paperless customs clearance, greatly improving customs clearance efficiency and promoting the expansion of Quanzhou's export aquatic products industry. Up to now, 26 companies in Quanzhou have registered with the EU, the United States, South Korea, Russia, Vietnam, Brazil and other countries and regions, which has improved the international competitiveness of aquatic products.
